(KOPIUJ 2)

The University of Lodz Faculty of Philology hosted the first edition of the Students Alumni Meetup, an event that connects graduates of the university with its current students on 15 April of the current year. Journalism graduates attended the Tuesday's meeting, talking in an informal atmosphere about building their career paths and giving practical advice to their younger colleagues.

Guests of the Students Alumni Meetup at the Faculty of Philology included Kinga Ratajczyk from the Department of Promotion and International Cooperation of the Aleksandrów Łódzki City Hall, Jonasz Zasowski (journalist and social media specialist at TVP Sport) and Igor Wiśniewski responsible for employer branding and communication at TME. The meeting was attended by several dozen students of International Journalism and Journalism, Media and Communication Design. The event was organised in the form of group conversations at tables, which lasted about fifteen minutes and ended with a group rotation.

The Students Alumni Meetup participants appreciated the opportunity to have direct contact with people who had already gone through a similar educational path. Many conversations turned into longer discussions, and some students came away with specific ideas for further career development.

It was great that we could talk to a few people, get to know different perspectives, especially since the guests were people working in slightly different industries. The atmpospher was friendly, we could talk without any stress. It is always a different kind of conversation than a discussion with a lecturer

– pointed out Jan Krzyżanowski, a student of International Journalism.

I have learned a lot of things: how to look for a job, what to do to avoid stress, what journalistic work looks like from the inside and what I can do after my studies. Such meetings are great. They definitely reduce my fears when it comes to looking for a job in the future

– added Julia, another participant of the event.

What do the invited guests think about Students Alumni Meetup?

It's a nice feeling to be back at the university after a break of a dozen or so years. I have been to the new building of the Faculty of Philology for the first time, and it was great to see how it all looks now. It was a great experience to meet students and also to hear how the perspective of younger people, their approach to studies and professional work have changed

– underlined Kinga Ratajczyk.

Other guests noted the students’ openness and involvement in the discussion.

It's great how the students themselves approached this meeting. They asked about various things with great interest. They inspired me with their enthusiasm, I see the desire to work, to act and to participate in various projects in them. The questions were different, for example, I was asked about how my career path had begun or whether one should be afraid of participating in internships and various recruitments

– repprted Jonasz Zasowski.

This is a phenomenal initiative. The students were very curious about the reality after graduation. It is extremely important to be aware of the challenges that await future graduates of journalism. I really liked the open approach of the meeting participants. It seems to me that there is a lot of potential in these people

– concluded Igor Wiśniewski.
